Embracing the Kynic not the Cynic is an ongoing photographic project that uses images, text, and aphorisms to examine the assumptions, beliefs, and cultural narratives that shape contemporary life. Drawing inspiration from Peter Sloterdijk's distinction between kynicism and cynicism, the work advocates neither ideology nor doctrine. Instead, it creates a space in which inherited positions can be questioned, tested, and reconsidered.

At the center of the project is a growing collection of aphorisms that function as propositions rather than conclusions. Statements such as "What Is Your Role?", "Independence of Thought Is Not a Threat," "The Last Thing You Need Is an Opinion," and "Geometry Is Always an Option" invite reflection rather than agreement. Some are humorous, some confrontational, some contradictory. Together they form a field of inquiry that encourages viewers to examine the frameworks through which meaning is constructed.

Photography and text operate as equal partners. Text is not used as caption or explanation but as a visual and conceptual element within the image itself. Through repetition, juxtaposition, and reduction, language becomes both subject and material, blurring the boundaries between seeing, reading, and thinking.

The project includes multiple interconnected bodies of work—including Kynics, Cynic, Thinkers, Pose, hesterisms, and Let Me In—which collectively explore questions of identity, perception, agency, power, and participation. Rather than presenting fixed answers, Embracing the Kynic not the Cynic proposes an active engagement with the world: one grounded in curiosity, self-examination, and the willingness to challenge received ideas without retreating into cynicism.
